Master's degree programme in Safety Assessment of Xenobiotics and Biotechnological Products
The degree programme in Sciences of Legal Services is intended to provide students with a baseline in legal studies, teaching them how to apply law to facts. The degree programme in Sciences of Legal Services trains students to enter a wide array of legal professions. On the public-sector side, the programme is for students hoping to enter a career in territorial administration (whether on a national, regional, or local level), working with a public entity or public holding. In terms of the private sector, the expected career path for graduates includes working in banking, insurance, finance, and more generally in investing and brokering, in the fields of compliance, contract management, and working with clients to avoid litigation. The degree programme also focuses on training experts in labour law, with the skill set and professional pedigree needed for HR management, union relations, collective bargaining, benefits management, and corporate welfare. Furthermore, the programme allows students to develop a specific understanding regarding issues relating to the evolution and governance of the non-profit arena within the Italian legal system. Graduates may have opportunities working directly for a company, public agency, or professional firm, or as independent professionals and entrepreneurs.
Indispensable for these professions is an understanding of a finite set of legal concepts, as well as a background in sociology, economics, and law-related computer skills. English-language proficiency is likewise required.
In a nutshell, we expect that upon graduating, those earning a degree in Sciences of Legal Services would know how to apply (using independent judgement and strong communication skills) their knowledge to solve problems in a wide range of professions within the legal field. The degree programme in Sciences of Legal Services has four different curricula:

The Five-Year Degree Course aims to provide students with a thorough and articulate knowledge of the domestic and international law, not only through a systematic and methodological approach, but also by means of an interdisciplinary perspective.
The Degree Course is divided into two phases: a theoretical and a practical one.
The theoretical phase aims at giving the students the essential skills to orient themselves through the different branches of the law and to gain the necessary skills to understand the legal reasoning.
The practical phase aims at teaching students how to handle the issues related to the interpretation of the law, stimulating them to develop critical abilities, communication skills and their vocabulary.
The Master's Degree Programme in Law prepares students for traditional careers in the field (attorney, magistrate, notary), but it also gives them the opportunity to explore a number of other law-related career paths, including as a consultant or salaried employee. A Master's degree in Law is the only pathway to the Post-graduate School of Legal Professions.
The post-graduate degree course LL.M. in Law and Sustainable Development, entirely taught in English, aims at educating professionals capable of using their advanced legal knowledge and skills, integrated with an understanding of the underlying socio-economic issues, to further the realization of the SDGs in the activities of public and private organizations, at the international, national, and local level.
The programme provides students with an advanced understanding of contemporary legal and socio-economic dynamics, characterised by interdependence, increasing complexity, rapid evolution, and integration between different fields of knowledge, as well as by a pluralist legal landscape, in which the traditional boundaries between levels (international, supranational, and domestic) and sources (public/private) of regulation are blurring.
In this context, students will develop an advanced understanding of the theoretical foundations of sustainability processes and the ethical implications of the choices made in this field by policy-makers and regulators, as well as by economic and social actors. They will also acquire an in-depth knowledge of the international and European legal framework applicable to the design and implementation of sustainability policies by international and supranational organisations, national and local public authorities, corporations (both in the domestic and transnational dimension), and organisations of the civil society (including NGOs).
The first year is the same for each student; In the second year, students can tailor their study plan, by choosing elective courses from among those offered within one of the four curricula, as well as one or more optional courses/activities.

The LL.M. programme trains a new generation of legal specialists able to reconcile social development, environmental goals, and economic growth in the activities of private and public organizations. LL.M. graduates will contribute to fostering favourable conditions for long-term competitiveness, social cohesion, and better environmental protection. At the local, national, and international levels, they will play a role in updating existing legal frameworks, business practices, and social action to the requirements and expectations about what the law can do in the sustainable development realm.
International Medical School (IMS) is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan. The degree course consists of 360 credits overall, spread over a six-year programme, of which at least 60 must be acquired in training aimed at the acquisition of specific professional abilities.
The main objective is to train excellent clinicians and researchers, capable of actively contributing to the improvement of human health. Leadership, passion for innovation, clinical experience, ethical judgment, self-awareness and respect for others’ values are key strenghts . We also strive to promote individual interests and strengthen the unique potential of each student so that he/she can achieve professional independence and excellence.
The IMS curriculum has been carefully devised and adapted during the years to be clearly distinct from the curricula of the other Italian MD programmes. Distinctive features of the MD curriculum include:
• International profile, with lessons held in English by Italian professors, enhanced by visiting professors – from leading European and North American universities.
• Innovative teaching methods, problem-based learning through structured training, small groups and discussions of clinical cases. The school will also offer exchange programs with foreign universities, which is seen as a key ingredient in enriching the learning experience.
• Highly integrated curriculum, with teaching activities and classes divided into blocks from the first year, and specially- designed programs of integrated content for a limited number of students.
• Research focus, through the early experience in research laboratories, the students will be early exposed to the content and methods of scientific research as a tool to approach the clinical field in the context of a translational training: “from bench-to-bedside” and vice versa.
The advent of technologies that allow the global analysis of biological phenomena ("omics") has revolutionized the study of human diseases and opened new perspectives in the field of research, diagnosis and therapy, tracing the path for Precision or Personalized Medicine. The central element of Precision Medicine is, in fact, the quantitative description of biological or clinical phenotypes by high definition omics (genomics, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microbiomics, digital imaging, radiomics and radiogenomics). The Course aims at providing students with a broad understanding of omics disciplines applied to medicine and first-hand practical experience with different omics techniques. Key competences of graduates include the ability to design experiments, manage the workflow, analyze and interpret omics data, and create applications for future developments in omics approaches.
The courses and training activities will provide specific skills in omics disciplines and in the computational approaches that are necessary for the interpretation of results. Graduates will also be familiar with the legal, ethical and decision-making aspects related to the handling of sensitive data.
Graduates in Biomedical Omics will be able to pursue careers as Technologists in Biomedical Omics.
Tasks: Coordination and execution of omics techniques in routine diagnostics or clinical research within hospital laboratories.

Graduates will also have the possibility to work in basic research laboratories, in biotechnological development institutes, or to continue their academic training by enrolling in doctoral programs or second-level masters programs, both in Italy and abroad.
The Master Programme in Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine is committed to form professionals, provided with a strong technical and theoretical background. The expected evolution of their careers will be to develop scientific methodologies and coordinate research projects in the fields of applied biotechnology and translational medicine.
The Master Programme will provide students with a strong educational background on the genetic and molecular bases of diseases and the pathophysiological mechanisms that occur in humans in pathological states, in order to develop diagnostic and therapeutic strategies based on biotechnology.
This knowledge will be integrated with a specific formation in the fields of informatics, biophysics, nanotechnology and pharmacology. The Master Programme is organized in common and curricular learning activities focused on neuroscience, oncology, molecular diagnostics and immunobiotechnology.
As a part of the common course, the students will learn about economic management of a scientific project, with emphasis on the construction of a business plan and cost analysis.
The Master Programme dedicates a long period of time, almost the entire second year, to laboratory activities in which the student, under the supervision of a tutor, will autonomously develop and apply different experimental approaches in the context of a wider research project. This activity will be finalized to the preparation of the degree programme final exam.
The course trains healthcare professionals, responsible for providing general nursing support in the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation of diseases and illnesses, as well as palliative care.
The course is articulated in three years. The didactic programme includes les-sons, seminaries, laboratory activities conducted in small groups under the supervision of a tutor and traineeships. Students will acquire many skills, included technical skills, patient education, and a proper bedside manner.
Completion of the degree leads to qualified nursing status and permits graduates to practice in public and private healthcare facilities, both in the community and through home care, in an employed or freelance capacity.
The Master's degree in Environmental and Food Economics (EFE) is an internationally oriented high-quality programme designed to provide students with both an excellent academic background and a practical attitude. The degree guarantees a promising outlook for a future professional career in today’s challenging fields of the economics of sustainability and of the management of the agri-food system.
The Master's degree in Environmental and Food Economics provides advanced expertise in economic and management disciplines, quantitative methods, and specific theoretical and applied knowledge in environmental and natural resources economics and in the economics and management of the agri-food system. The aim is to provide advanced knowledge and instruments for the promotion of sustainable development, climate change adaptation and mitigation, natural resources management (water, soil, energy), environmental, energy, and agri-food policy analyses, innovation in the agri-food sector, internationalisation of agri-food companies, food security and rural development.
The program initially provides a series of teachings instrumental to the disciplines involved in the master (mathematics, statistics, econometrics, law, economic history). Then its organization is balanced with common core teachings in the following areas: business (accounting, environmental management), economics (microeconomics, environmental & natural resource economics), and the environment (agri-food economics, International agri-food markets and policy). The two curricula start from the end of the first year.
The curriculum in Environmental and Energy Economics aimed to provide professional training focused on sustainable economic development, energy markets and policies, and economic impact assessment of climate change.
The curriculum in Economics and Management of the Agri-Food System aimed to provide professional training focused on the management of national and international value chains, consumer behavior and marketing strategies, food security issues and rural development.
The Master's Degree in Biotechnology for the Bioeconomy is aimed to prepare graduates with advanced knowledge on the molecular and cellular basis of biological systems, plant and microorganisms, in order to be able to manage, develop and improve the processes in several sectors of biotechnologies applied to the bioeconomy.
Students will acquire knowledge about biotechnological methods applied to the set up and innovation of bioprocesses based on biological resources, even oriented to environmental remediation and waste biomass valorisation within the circular economy approach. Knowledge on biological macromolecules and cellular processes based on them, complemented by analytical molecular and chemical instruments will be provided. The preparation will be completed by life cycle assessment, intellectual property and project management in the bioeconomy sector.
Knowledge in specific sectors will be acquired by i) elective courses that the student will choose among a list of courses focusing on specific biotechnologies, ii) optional courses even offered in other Master Degrees, and laboratory stages.
Student preparation will not be strictly notional, several courses will include in the program specific cross-cutting activities providing soft skills like group-working and presentation skills. Most of the courses, moreover, will organize laboratory practical activities and technical visits to companies of interest in the bioeconomy sector. In the study plan, among the free activities, the student has moreover the possibility to do multidisciplinary laboratory internships.
Relevant formation activity will be the experimental thesis, which could be performed in research laboratories, public or private, national or international. The final exam will consist in the production and discussion of a dissertation containing the results of an original research work.
The BforB graduate is an expert in coordination, management and set up of research and development laboratories in public entities and in private companies in the chemical, agro-environmental and biotechnological sectors. The function will primarily be the development, implementation and coordination of laboratory activity within basic and applied research projects, the set-up of bioprocesses, the quality control.
The aim of the Degree Course in Pharmacy is to provide a range of theoretical and practical knowledge in the biological, chemical, pharmaceutical, technological, pathophysiological, pharmacological and toxicological fields, which will allow graduates to deal with the entire sequence of the complex and multidisciplinary process that from structural design leads to the production, marketing and correct use of the prescription drug, according to codified standards. The Degree Course in Pharmacy also provides advanced scientific preparation in the healthcare field aimed at forming a professional figure of expert in the drugs and their use for therapeutic purposes. This specialized figure will be capable of serving as a fundamental element of connection between patient, doctor and public health structures, collaborating in monitoring the drug on the territory, the implementation of the therapy in both the local and hospital areas and will provide the patient and the doctor all the proper indications for a correct use of prescription drugs. On these bases, graduates from the Degree Course in Pharmacy will possess the scientific bases and the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to exercise the profession of pharmacist and to operate as experts of drugs and health products (medical devices, medical-surgical devices, cosmetics, dietetics, food supplements, herbal products, in vitro diagnostics).
The Degree Course in Pharmacy focuses in particular on the chemical (general and inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry), biochemical, technical- and chemical-pharmaceutical, pharmacological disciplines and also emphasizes practical laboratory activities. Other in-depth areas concern the aspects related to stability, toxicity, formulation, research and development, and information. for medicines and health products. Graduates in Pharmacy will acquire multidisciplinary knowledge, which is essential for understanding the active substance, its structure and activities in relation to the interaction with biomolecules at a cellular and systemic level.
The aim of the Master Course is to present provision of training program in risk assessment based on common European and international criteria, easily adoptable by institutions across Europe and focusing on Risk Assessment methodology and procedure. The project focuses on understanding the profile and training requirements of risk assessors in order to design a degree covering a range of disciplines in risk assessment and providing a model to establish a recognition of risk assessors. To this end, the Master degree in "Safety Assessment of Xenobiotics and Biotechnological Products” (SAXBi) has been certified (the first one in Europe), according to the Standard UNI EN 16736 and to the AICQ SICEV Regulation RG 06-1, that well define the formation for risk assessors.
The Master Course provides specific knowledge in the analysis and assessment of risk, taking into account the international regulations. In addition, the ambition of the course is to provide the students with a multidisciplinary background sufficient to initiate research on the novel methodologies to be applied in the field of risk assessment. It is believed that the professional profiles formed will find employment in the European and international Institutions and Agencies dealing with the protection of health of consumer and the environment, as well as in companies operating in the chemical, agrochemical, pharmaceutical and food field.
The aim of the master course in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology is to provide knowledge in scientific methodologies for the design, production and characterization of biotechnological drugs. The master course is organized in three programs, two held in Italian and one in English. The first two programs share a common first year, dedicated to the acquisition of basic knowledge, followed by specific pathways oriented (1) to the use of the biotechnologies in identifying new targets and designing new drugs ("Biotecnologie nella ricerca e sviluppo del farmaco") and (2) to the development, production, formulation, and evaluation of biotechnological drugs ("Biotecnologie nella ricerca e sviluppo del farmaco"). The third program, "Pharmacogenomics and Precision Therapeutics", held in English, is more focused to the recent innovative biotechnological drugs, such as cell and gene therapies.
Master programme’s students can choose among three different curricula, one entirely taught in English language:
• Biotechnologies in drug’s research and development ( taught in Italian)
• Development and production of biotechnological drugs (taught in Italian);
• Pharmacogenomics and Precision Therapeutics ( entirely taught in English).
The occupational possibilities for the graduates are the following: teaching and research activity in public and private Universities; to do research activity in public research institutes; to do research and development in pharma and biotech companies; teaching in secondary schools; clinical monitoring.In addition, graduates will be able to participate in the creation and management of biotech companies in the field of pharmaceutical and diagnostic products.
The course helps students acquire solid practical language skills in at least two languages besides Italian (arabic, chinese, french, japanese, hindi , english, russian, spanish, german), backed up by a thorough grounding in theoretical aspects, particularly those relating to languages for special purposes. The course also offers a wide and in-depth introduction to the cultural aspects of each language studied, as well as covering areas like modern Italian literature, contemporary history, sociology, law, economics and geography. Students will acquire the skills needed to compare different social systems and understand the dynamics of intercultural communication.
The course has a common core basis and three different curricula that can be chosen starting from the second year:
1. “International Multicultural Activities” (economic and juridical approach);
2. Linguistic Intercultural Activities (sociological, historic and anthropological approach);
3. Italian Language and Culture for foreign linguistic mediator (only for students with foreign diploma)
The undergraduate programme in Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication (applied to economics, law and society) aims to train language mediators who possess solid language skills - combined with a sound knowledge of cultural studies and of the principles of economics, law, and sociology - and who are therefore capable of providing inter-linguistic services in a variety of contexts, ranging from public and private institutions, to schools and vocational training centers, to companies and other organizations in which language mediation and intercultural communication are of paramount importance.
This Bachelor Degree’s program aims to provide the theoretical foundations, the algorithms, the techniques, and the methodologies of artificial intelligence as well as to show how to use them in applications, contributing to the dissemination and the advancement of knowledge and skills in this discipline and in the application sectors, promoting technological innovation, and supporting the economic and social development of the Country.
The objectives of this Bachelor Degree’s program are the understanding of the foundations of artificial intelligence and its use in some applications which are relevant to a broad variety of economic sectors.
The course also provides the experimentation of the practical use of artificial intelligence in an application area to complete the professional training, according to the current needs of the economic sectors (specifically: communication and marketing, industrial automation and embedded systems, cognitive sciences, and technologies for physics).
This Bachelor Degree’s program in Artificial Intelligence trains professionals with significant interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, ready to successfully enter in the job market.

Class: L-31 - Computer science
The goals of the degree course in Computer Science are, on the one hand, to provide a solid basic and methodological knowledge of the main sectors of computer science and mathematics and, on the other, to provide a good command of the methodologies and technologies of Computer Science, offering adequate background to learn and know the different application areas of the discipline and to be able to assimilate, understand and evaluate the impact of the constant scientific and technological progress in the discipline.
The degree program provides a broad common basis of activities, all aimed at preserving the homogeneity and cultural coherence expected of a Computer Science graduate. It is also given to the student a certain amount of freedom in the choice of a part of the courses in order to further investigate some topics of their own interest among those proposed by the course of study. For the realization of all the training objectives set out above, frontal lessons, practical exercises, labs and IT tools to support teaching are provided.
The type of role that the degree course in Computer Science wants to train with a view to immediate placement is that of a University's graduate capable of collaborating with technical, operational and professional tasks in consultancy, analysis, design, management, maintenance, marketing of small and medium-sized IT systems. Graduates will be able to operate in the most varied application fields for the design and management of IT and telematic systems and for the study of new systems and applications.
Environmental change plays a central role in modern societies, to the point that a sustainable management of the environment currently represents one of the most important open challenges for humanity. Addressing this challenge requires a multidisciplinary approach that overcomes the usual boundaries of scientific disciplines.
In this context, the Course provides advanced expertise in the hard- and life-science components of environmental studies as well as in their economic- and social-science components. The general goal is to train students to tackle environmental change and sustainability in a multidisciplinary perspective. Students will, therefore, be provided with both a solid knowledge of the dynamics of the different components of the environment and a deep understanding of the tools required to promote its sustainable management and protection.

The main peculiar quality of ECGS graduates is their ability to tackle environmental change and sustainability in a multidisciplinary perspective. This ability benefits of advanced expertise in the hard- and life-science components of environmental studies as well as in their economic- and social-science components.
In this context, five professional positions ECGS graduates can achieve are listed below:
· Environmental manager in private and public companies operating in the agri-food, energy and green economy sectors, as well as in other business companies involved in the third sector.
· Environmental executive in public administrations, local governments and institutions.
· Environmental executive in national, international and supranational corporations or NGOs.
· Specialist in audits and assessments, evaluating environmental and sustainability issues.
· Specialist in environmental analysis and monitoring.
The Master's Degree Course in Industrial Chemistry aims at preparing chemists with a good knowledge of theory and practical aspects of the industrial production in the different areas of Chemistry.Master programme’s structure combines compulsory courses of industrial chemistry, chemical processes and management, with laboratory activities and elective courses, to deepen some aspects of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry.
The graduate in Industrial Chemistry will possess crucial technical skills in the field of chemistry, industrial chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, specifically concerning the product-process relationship and scale-up procedures.
Graduates are expected to have a career in: research and development in chemical industries; design and management of pilot plants, chemical plants; industries and research centers working in diversified sectors of either conventional or innovative fields.
The goals of Course are to provide a solid basic and methodological knowledge of the main sectors of computer science and mathematics and to provide a good command of the methodologies and technologies of Computer Science, offering adequate background to learn and know the different application areas of the discipline.
The degree program provides a broad common basis of activities, all aimed at preserving homogeneity and cultural coherence expected from a Computer Science graduate. It is also given to the student a certain amount of freedom in choosing optional subjects in order to further investigate some topics of their own interest among those proposed by the course of study. IN order to meet the above stated goals, frontal lessons, practical exercises, labs and IT tools to support teaching are provided.
Graduates will be able to operate in many working fields for the design and management of IT and telematic systems and for the study of new systems and applications.
This activity can be carried out in all areas of the public and private sector that work with information technology. Therefore the main market segments concerned are: banks, insurance companies, logistics and transport, healthcare, public administrations, telecommunications and media, service companies, industry.
The course allows to qualify for the following regulated professions: junior information engineer; graduate industrial expert.
The main goal of the MBC Master degree is to train biologists in advanced biomolecular research, to prepare them for present and future challenges in the field. The specific goal of the MBC programme is to provide in depth and up-to-date knowledge in the following subjects:
• molecular genome analysis;
• regulation of gene expression;
• structure and function of biological macromolecules and their interactions in supramolecular complexes;
• cellular communication, signal perception and transduction, metabolic regulation, biomolecular engineering and computing.
The course will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of biomolecular research. The graduate student will acquire first-hand expertise in state-of-the-art and emerging research technologies/approaches, data acquisition systems and analysis, and will address current world scientific challenges in the research laboratories in the Department of Biosciences.
The MBC course covers all principal areas of the LM-6 Biology course, with a unique focus on biomolecular subjects that distinguishes it from other courses of the same LM Class. The main goal of the MBC course is to train biologists in advanced biomolecular research, to address present and future scientific challenges.
In-depth and up-to-date knowledge will be provided for the following subjects: molecular analysis of the genome; regulation of gene expression; structure and function of biological macromolecules and their interactions in supramolecular complexes; cellular communication, signal perception and transduction, metabolic regulation, biomolecular engineering and computing.
Both theoretical and practical aspects of biomolecular research will be addressed. Graduate students will learn to apply novel and emerging research technologies/approaches, cutting-edge data acquisition systems and analysis, and will have hands-on experience with top-level nanotechnology, hosted in the research laboratories of the DBS. MBC graduates will be well equipped to enter further, postgraduate-level education programmes.
The Master's degree course in Plant Science is the result of an agreement between the University of Milan (UNIMI) and the University of Grenoble-Alpes (UGA), France. The Master's degree is a collaboration designed to enable students to obtain two degree titles, one from UNIMI and one from UGA. Students must attend courses and take exams at both Universities.
In particular, in the first year, students will be spending their first semester in Grenoble at UGA and their second semester in Milan at UNIMI. In the second year, depending on the location of the laboratory where they decide to carry out their compulsory experimental thesis work, students will be free to decide whether to stay at UGA or UNIMI.
The MSc in Plant Science aims to train professionals with a solid and integrated cultural background in basic biology, appropriate for applications in the different fields of biology, focusing mainly on plant science.
Students will acquire a high-level scientific preparation and in-depth knowledge and skills, taking into account molecular and cellular aspects, without neglecting application objectives such as plant breeding and the protection and conservation of natural plant species. The Plant Science graduate will acquire advanced skills that will enable him/her to use the latest available technologies to study complex plant biological systems.
The international character of the Master's degree, the knowledge of the English language and the international experience are all highly appreciated aspects that will contribute to broaden the graduate's job prospects, going well beyond national borders.
The Master’s degree in Bioinformatics for Computational Genomics (BCG) is organized in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano. It aims to form graduates with an adequate knowledge about the molecular basis of biological systems; the structure and function of biological molecules and how they participate in cellular processes; the technologies and platforms for the analysis of genomes; of the tools for bioinformatic and genomic analysis; and the statistical and computational methodologies for the analysis of biomolecular data.
Applicants are required to have a background in biomolecular sciences or in computer science/mathematics.
The BCG degree therefore includes activities providing in depth knowledge on:
1) the organization of information in the genome and the molecular and cellular processes at the basis of gene expression and its regulation.
2) the experimental methods used for studying genes and their function in different model species, both prokaryotic and eukaryotic.
3) the technologies employed in modern genomic research
4) methods and protocols of bioinformatic analysis in functional genomics studies
5) algorithmic, mathematical and statistical approaches underlying bioinformatic and genomic analysis tools

The MB&B Master degree aims at providing students with advanced skills in molecular biotechnology and computational biology and bioinformatics, with a strong focus on the most advanced tools and approaches for the analysis of genomes, proteomes, and metabolomes. The main goal of the MB&B Master degree is to give the students a broad theoretical and practical background needed to apply their knowledge to any biological/biotechnology problems.
Specific goal of MB&B is to provide a deep and up-to-date knowledge in the following core subjects:
- molecular biology and biotechnology
- functional genomics and "-omics" technologies
- protein expression systems
- metabolic engineering and industrial processes
- structural biochemistry
- molecular enzymology

In addition, the student will have the opportunity to develop further specific disciplines of its interest, choosing from courses in plant genetics, nanotechnology, biophysics, molecular microbiology, molecular parasitology, structural biology, patenting and technology transfer. The MB&B Master degree combines lecture-based courses (in the first year and the first term of the second year) and an experimental laboratory project leading to a dissertation (second year), to be chosen by the students among many projects offered by the University of Milan and other research institutes, including private companies.
Graduates can enter careers in production facilities of biotechnological companies, including diagnostics, chemicals, and agro-food industries; promotion of scientific development and technological innovation; in Research & Develo-pment departments in different industrial settings; service management in areas related to industrial biotechnology, as well as in Quality Control laboratories; research laboratories in both private and public institutions. In addition, this Master degree may lead to Ph.D. programs and other higher education courses, both in Italy and abroad.

The course prepares graduates in biological and biotechnological disciplines to operate at the intersection between biology and physics. The quantitative approach requires a physical understanding of biological phenomena and the development of mathematical and computational tools for the analysis, understanding, and redesign of biological systems. The aim is to train a new generation of experts with integrated skills in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science, able to perform accurate experimental measurements and apply predictive theoretical models, to explain biological complexity. Quantitative biology uses emerging technological and computational capabilities to model biological processes for biotechnological applications such as protein and metabolic engineering, drug discovery and synthetic biology.
The degree provides employment opportunities in research institutes and industry in the areas of bio-nano-technologies, bio-pharmaceutical research, and in the development of high-tech research instrumentation.
Primary duties of a graduate in QB can range from analyze and optimize pre/clinical trials and predict outcomes using modeling and simulation, integration and interpretation of data from many sources to help drive project decisions, apply molecular modeling and computer aided drug design techniques, basic use and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, literature review.
The graduate in QB can be hired as junior research scientist, product scientist, junior research project manager, scientific application specialist, scientific equipment services specialist.
The aim of the course is to offer high-level training, which will enable students to develop a set of basic theoretical-scientific skills and practical skills in the field of foreign languages and literatures, in accordance with the strong international vocation of its educational programme.
The study of at least two foreign languages and literatures, freely combined, is accompanied by a number of common core disciplines intended to equip students with a solid humanistic, philological and literary background. A wide range of optional modules offers students the possibility to personalize their curriculum thus leading to an eclectic and flexible body of competence.
Graduates in Foreign languages and literatures develop a wealth of linguistic, literary and cultural skills use-ful for placing themselves in a variety of professional settings, especially those requiring written and oral command of foreign languages accompanied by a solid humanistic training. In addition, they will have acquired a very good command of techniques of retrieval and management of information from a variety of sources.

The Course aims to train graduates who can enter the professional arena and perform a variety of distinct tasks, from cataloguing to conservation and safeguarding, from optimising to promoting, all relating to cultural property.
The degree programme, therefore, aims to provide a baseline education in cultural property and a survey of the history, the humanities, and the sciences as they relate to this field. Strong focus will be placed on cultural assets from archaeology, art, archiving, library, musical, theatre, and film. The graduate's training in this degree programme may prove to be a launch-pad to further university study.
Graduates will acquire knowledge and skills needed to process, understand, and promote cultural property through a mastery of the fundamental topics and research and study methods in archaeology, history, art, musicology, and the performing arts. Consideration will also be given to any other field which, in one way or another, involves cultural property.
Cultural education in the field of cultural assets opens the door to students' entering any number of professions:

The aim of the course is to develop a set of high-level methodological and theoretical-scientific skills in one or two European languages and literatures, considering their evolution and forms of expression in both their original areas and in those of more recent expansion.
The course leaves a wide margin for personalization and allows students to build a coherent study plan, combining foreign languages and literatures with other fields of Humanities. The languages and the corresponding literatures taught are French, English, German, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Scandinavian languages (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish), Spanish. Anglo-American and Hispanic American literatures are also available for study.
Depending on the approach chosen and the subject of the Master's dissertation, students will be able to organize their study plan according to specific perspectives, such as: linguistics and philology; literature and comparative studies; the historical, geographical and philosophical areas; the field of communication, editorial activity and artistic expression; anthropology, psychology and pedagogy, fields especially useful to acquire the requested credits for the training of future secondary teachers.

The Undergraduate Degree Course in Economics and Management develops adequate knowledge of economics and business subjects, of mathematics and statistics, and of regulations to understand how the economic system functions, market processes and the role of companies.
Particularly, the course provides the necessary skills to understand: the economic and financial decisional strategies and processes of companies, consumers, financial intermediaries and regulators; the function of assets and services markets, of the financial and labour markets, their dynamics and effects on economic development; the distribution of income and wealth; the evolution of macroeconomic dynamics, the interventions of monetary policy, the decisions of economic policy; the problems of managing companies that operate in the European and international framework; the organisational issues typical of private companies and public administrations.

The Bachelor's Programme in International Politics, Law and Economics is a three-year English taught programme which offers interdisciplinary education in political science, law, economics, history, and sociology, with a particular emphasis on the political, economic, and legal dimensions of the contemporary international context.
The international and comparative focus which characterises all of the courses taught within this programme aims to enable students to understand and interpret today's global reality, while also allowing them to grasp and critically assess its complexities.
The Bachelor’s Programme prepares graduates to find employment in the following areas: national and regional/local public administrations, including diplomatic missions to foreign countries or international institutions; international organisations; NGOs (e.g. those engaged in humanitarian volunteering activities); centres or associations specialised in the study and analysis of political, social, and economic processes; public and/or private (national or multinational) companies involved in international trade and finance; in the fields of services, cultural heritage, tourism, and communication.
The Bachelor’s Programme in International Politics, Law and Economics consists in a general part and two alternative curricula:
• International Politics and Economics;
• International Politics and Law.
Students need to choose the preferred curriculum during the enrollment process, since there are a few differences already during the first two years of study. They maintain the possibility of switching to a different curriculum, respecting the structure and requisites of the courses offered in the chosen curriculum.
The degree aims to develop the student's understanding of contemporary economic, political and social phenomena within both a European and international community framework.
The first two years of the degree programme aim at providing a solid theoretical and methodological knowledge of the international relations in five diverse fields (political, economic, legal, sociological and historical). In the third-year courses aim at guiding students in applying their competences for recognizing concrete issues that arise in international relations and indicating possible solutions.
Students can choose between four curricula (International institutions and organizations; International Trade; European integration; Institutions of non-European countries).

The BA in Political Science offers the substantive competencies and the methodological skills typical of an interdisciplinary degree at the intersection of economics, law, political science, sociology and history. The master's degree program in Data Science and Economics aims to provide advanced training on information technology, quantitative and methodological methods and tools for interpreting and analyzing complex phenomena in the sectors of economics, marketing, business and finance or social sciences.
The course of study offers methodological skills of economic theory, theory of decisions in conditions of uncertainty, micro-econometrics techniques and analysis of time series, as well as advanced competences on new information technologies for data management and scalability of analysis systems in cloud environments, as well as automatic learning techniques for information extraction and classification.
In the training course there are laboratories, partly carried out by companies, to develop a greater aptitude for problem solving among students and make them aware and reactive to the challenges of the labour market.
Data Science and Economics graduates, given the multidisciplinary nature of their methodological, technical and practical training, can be included in various work sectors: small, medium and large companies and research centers operating in the information processing sector, companies and public bodies involved in the management of large amounts of data, research and development laboratories, public and private, innovative start-ups, health companies, biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, consulting companies.
The two-year master’s degree in Economics and Political science (EPS) offers a highly qualified interdisciplinary learning track, integrating advanced analytical tools in economics, political science and quantitative methods. EPS is intended for top level international students with a strong interest in economics and political science.
EPS students will be able to reach highly qualified theoretical and applied knowledge and skills in each of the following fields: mathematics, probability and statistics, with applications to economic, political and social sciences; econometrics; microeconomics; macroeconomics; economic policy; public economics; welfare economics and politics; history of economic analysis; comparative politics, theory of European integration; positive and normative political theory; decision theory; game theory; social and political choice theory; theory of justice.
EPS graduates are actively employed. Half are based abroad and half in Italy. Thanks to the wide range of skills and knowledge that they acquire, they find employment in many different sectors such as marketing/sales, banking and finance, business services, in international organizations and in public relations, among others. One third is pursuing a research career, enrolling in PhD programs either in Italy or abroad.
This internationally oriented master degree is thought to provide students with an excellent academic background and practical sense, as well as with a promising outlook for a future career in today's challenging and dynamic financial markets and international economy.
During the first year common to both curricula, students acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to use mathema-tical models to comprehend complex financial problems and learn how to apply these models in the fields of economic sciences and financial market analysis. The Financial Economics curriculum, is dedicated to the training of economists capable of operating at international institutions or central go-vernment level in both the financial and economic sphere.The Quantitative Economics curriculum, is aimed at preparing financial specialists capable of operating in the areas of pricing of derivatives, portfolio management, risk management and control in the financial and / or actuarial sector.
The course is completed with mandatory stage activity at selected Companies and Institutions organized for the students by the Course board.

The Course, which is jointly awarded by the University of Milan and the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, is an advanced interdisciplinary programme offering high-level competences in political science and philosophy.
The study plan includes a common core of courses addressing cutting-edge topics in political science, in moral and political philosophy. Core courses also provide accurate historical, sociological and juridical competences, apt to rigorously frame similar debates, as well as advanced training in empirical methodologies and argumentative strategies, which will strengthen students' analytical capacities and their ability to assess and defend normative and policy proposals.
The second year of the programme offers the opportunity to study in-depth a wide array of topics organized into two main areas:
- the first area "Technology, science and society" includes courses critically addressing the importance and the ethical implications of scientific and technological development, with a special emphasis on pressing questions concerning environmental studies, bioethics, neuroethics, biopolitics, on the challenges of the information society and on the new dynamics of media systems.

In today’s globalized world, a nexus of complex legal, political, economic, and social dynamics creates new challenges as well as new opportunities. Conflict resolution and crisis management, human rights and international crimes, transnational economic relations, cultural diversities, environmental protection, geopolitical competition and transnational social processes: these are just some of the keywords of contemporary international relations, and some of the topics addressed in this programme.
With its multidisciplinary approach, the Master’s programme in International Relations offers analytical knowledge of these issues from a political, historical, legal, economic and social point of view, as well as the methodological and practical tools that are needed to effectively manage concrete situations and to develop individual attitudes to problem-solving in an international setting.
The programme is organized in four “curricula”. For each of them, the individual study plan is adjusted based on the academic background and future goals of each student. Two curricula are entirely taught in English:
• Curriculum C – International Politics and Regional Dynamics, with a focus on regionalization processes in the main geopolitical arenas (North Africa and the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia, North America), from the perspectives of political science and international history
• Curriculum E – International Cooperation and Human Rights, with a focus on the transnational socio-economic and socio-cultural trends that characterize the current international society, both globally and regionally, analysed from a sociological, legal and economic perspective.
Common to all curricula is the study of languages, with an advanced course of English language and a second language course that students can choose between French, German, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Russian. The study plan also includes an internship in Italy or abroad, to take place in companies, embassies or consulates, international trade agencies, international organizations and NGOs.
